Gearing up for Mom's Day....

I'm back with another post for the day.....time has been good to me today! Yay! I'm not quite done with Easter, I may be showing you a card or two that I have left.... but, in the meantime, I was just sifting through some photos of my mom and found some really pretty ones that I wanted to showcase in a layout:

Some of them, I just couldn't pass by! She loves, loves, loves flowers! She understands them though - not just to look at and say that they are beautiful, but in essence, she knows the technical details of some flowers and is so knowledgeable in that area!! As much as paper crafting is my passion....flowers and nature are definitely hers!

Here's a closeup of her in admiration:

I thought the color of the flowers fit perfectly with the papers that I wanted to use called 'Fashion District' - YUM, really pretty patterned papers!
And this is a fun frame that I plan on inserting a smaller picture later, makes for a great gift accessory if you plan on making something handmade for your mom this year! It will be here before you know it, only a month and 2 weeks away, I believe??

Enjoy!

LAD Sketch #72 - Watercolor Stamping

This weeks sketch challenge over at Lizzie Anne Designs is to totally step out of your comfort zone, and try a technique that you have never tried before!

I have never tried watercolor stamping or any kind of distressing ever! So I thought this was a great challenge for me....and here is what I came up with:

I actually sat down and watched a video tutorial on watercoloring and all the different ways to do it. There are so many ways I couldn't believe it!!

I first took a sheet of wax paper and marked it up with various shades of ink, to include tangerine, moss green, and a hint of yellow. I spritzed with water and stamped my image directly onto the wet ink. I then applied to my paper to achieve the watercolor effect.

I have no idea if this looks adequate or not....I would love to experiment more and really master this technique...very fun and very messy....lol! Love it!

Hope you enjoy!

Raspberry Suite Color Challenge #2

I needed a good color ensemble for a layout I wanted to do.......so I was blog hopping and I stumbled onto Dawn McVey's fun color challenge, I knew this was perfect for my layout.....here are the refreshing colors to be used:

And here is what I came up with.....I name this layout Winter's Breath:

It is strange doing a winter themed layout when all that is on my mind is spring time! lol.....but this is a gorgeous photo and I've been meaning to use it for a while now!

I love these vine leaves that are actually ribbon.....I was at a local scrap booking shop over the weekend and was able to snap up some chocolate, moss green, and white ones! Love these!!! I think I'll be using these a lot in my future projects....have also got coming my way some yummy Prima leaf vines that look great too!

On to other news, 5 more days of school for my little one and then, he is on Spring Break, my mind is wondering what activities I need to stir up to keep us busy during the break....I can not really recall what we did last year....but I'll try to mix it up this year!

Also, the little tiger has vastly improved his hand coordination on the computer mouse, he was able to entirely manipulate it yesterday - clicked on his favorite icon on the desktop and start an entire movie by himself.....UGH, kids are SOOO SMART!!! And he is no exception.....he is becoming my brilliant one.....so much smarter than I ever was growing up! Wow......amazes me every time....

Have a great day and enjoy....hope there is sunshine wherever you are!

Free Spirit

Goodmorning all! Made this layout late last night......no stamping at all, it was more of a color challenge of celery, rose pink, light yellow, and black:

It's funny though, this is not the original but a total re-vamp.....I had started out with totally different colors and a different design and then I ended up not liking it at all!!! Oh, it was terrible, ask my hubby....poor thing....he had to sit there and listen to me complain and ponder and pace back and forth, trying to figure out how I was going to salvage the page.....lol.

I had pretty much ruined the first one and knew I had to remake it. So the one you see above is the final version. I'm much more pleased with this new one. :))

Here is a close-up at some yummy Basic Grey chipboards, very fun and aren't they cute? Ofcourse you know I can't stay away from butterflies!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

"It's my party...and I'll cry if I want to......"

...remember that song? or is it "It's my birthday....and I'll cry if I want to".....I can't remember the exact lyrics...I just remember that is one of my favorite birthday tunes of the past!

Speaking of Birthdays - I'm getting this posted a little early because I will be gone all day tomorrow, but I have a special blogging friend who is celebrating her Birthday on Saturday! Happy Day to you Ivy!!! Whooohoooo.....here is a card I made for her:

This gal loves cupcakes (I don't blame her at all)....I love this sentiment.....

And I have this obsession with ribbons, really fun loving, colorful ones:

And to the cupcake lovin' kind of girl, a little treat for you too:

Enjoy! Hope it is a wonderful day for you! I will see everyone back on Sunday or Monday! Have a great weekend everyone....thanks always for stopping by and checking out my blog!

Playing with windows....

Here's a really fun and silly little card:

I made it for the 'windows' challenge over at Hero Arts. The goal for this challenge is to be create some type of window either for a card, scrap book, or any other type of project....and BOY, have I seen some really creative entries so far....

Now that I think about it, I could have made my mini blinds even more realistic by cutting up each individual 'slat' on the blind and then piecing the thread through it! But isn't it funny how you always look back after the fact and wonder if you could have done it differently? lol.
Here is a closeup of the inside of the card once the blinds are pulled up:

Have fun today!

All dressed in velvet....

I'm back again today with a fun layout using some lacey ribbons and lots of florals:

This is not my typical style of scrapping....I tend to like clean lines and simplicity but, once again, definitely nice to step out of your comfort zone and create something a little different and more bold.

Here is a closeup of the details, the border window for the picture was made using a scalloped stamp, wedged together and trimmed to adhere over the photo:

And there is nothing quite like some pretty ribbons to make a girl smile. ;)

Enjoy!

LAD Sketch #71

Yesterday, I spent some time with my mom...she cracks me up...such a riot everytime I visit her, she always makes me smile and says the funniest things sometimes!!! So since she is still on my mind this morning....wanted to make a card just for her:

This is my version of the weekly sketch over at Lizzie Anne Designs. Don't you just love that sentiment?

I could never tire of it, it is such a great sentiment and it can be used for more than just Mother's Day....you can use it for many different occasions simply when you are just thinking of somone special who is a mommy!

And my mom even does this ritual every time any of her children visit her and when we leave the house, she will stand at the door or at the window and wait until we drive off and she will wave her goodbye to us....too sweet! And you know what is the best part about my mom....til this day she still worries about me even if I just cough a tiny little bit......a cough = no good according to my mom. ;) Super sweet lady....you would love her instantly if you met her!!

Have a wonderful day!

Enjoy and hope you have a great day....I'll be back on Monday with some more Easter themed cards that I have brewing inside my head....don't you just love this time of the year??? Flowers are starting to bloom, the taste of fresh fruits at the market, sunny skies, and that touch of crisp spring air - makes the struggles of the cold winter so worth the wait!!

A Bunny Story...

This is a really fun project that you can make for this Easter, either for your children or have your kids make it with you....so great to get little kiddies involved in it:

I'm going to give you very simple instructions on how you can make this little candy jar....
First, find a round or as round as possible (because we want our little bunny to be a little chubby), a round jar or tin with a screw top lid...it can be plastic or glass...better if it is plastic.

1. Start with the body of the bunny, use a Marvy circle punch and cut out one circle with blue paper. Add another yellow rectangle and black beads or gems vertically, for the shirt buttons.
Adhere all of these elements on the front of the jar.

2. Next, let's work on the bunny's head piece. Cut out the head shape using white cardstock in a pear like shape. Use two black gems for the eyes. I used a partial piece of a heart stamp to make the whiskers. You can hand cut your own whisker shape if you wish. Punch two holes with a hole puncher using pink paper for the rose cheeks. Use a larger pearl gem for the nose. You can hand draw the tongue with a fine sharpie marker.

3. For the ear pieces, you may hand cut the shape of the ears or use a leaf stamp with bubblegum ink. Trim and leave a little bit of white on the outside rim for the ears.

4. Trace the circle of the lid over pink paper, cut and adhere to top of lid. Tie a 1/2" ribbon around the lid.

5. Make the hands using white paper, fold and adhere to side of the jar.

6. For the feet, cut out with white paper and using your hole punch, punch out 6 holes using pink paper (3 for each foot).

7. For the carrot, take a piece of orange colored paper and cut in triangular shape. Use leaf stamp for the carrot stem. Cut small crevice on the right arm and insert carrot.

8. Fill the jar with lots of yummy candy! You can remove the carrot when opening the lid to retrieve the goods!

That's it!

Hope it wasn't too complicated and ENJOY your Saturday!

LAD Sketch #70 - ver. 2

Today has been very busy and a lot of running around and driving everywhere....but I did manage to sneak in some time late this evening to make another sketch card:

This reminds me of some delicious strawberries my hubby bought for me over the weekend....he knows I love strawberries! And they were so super sweet....you know when after you wash them and put them right in your mouth and they just burst with sweetness that you don't even have to add any sugar at all!!! And then you just want to grab more and more!

Well, I'm the only fruit eater between the 3 of us and so I ate the whole carton myself in 2 days flat....lol! It was sooo good! Yum!

Enjoy the card!

I needed a little inspiration yesterday for a fun filled Spring layout....

Here is a closeup of some of the wonderful butterfly stamps I used:

LAD Sketch #70

Hi all! Wow...what a busy day it's been....I'm roughing it in this heat....I love warm weather and the beginnings of Spring and Summer but I tend to get extreme headaches due to the heat...just can't have it all both ways can you? lol...

So here is this week's SKETCH at Lizzie Anne Designs.

And here is my take on it:

I did something a little different with my bunny that is sitting on top of the HUGE egg....goodness! I cut out partially both arms - folded them out a tad and placed him behind the egg, to make it look like he was grasping onto the egg. I also thought it would be fun to use a floral stamp from an LAD Hawaiian set to decorate the egg...yummy...I just love that flower!

And I couldn't resist twisting a sketch a little, don't I always do that?? My hands were just itching to throw on some pretty flowers too:

Thanks for looking!!

Somedays....

....you just want to eat something delicious like this:

Yumm! Visited a quaint little French/Vietnamese Bakery today and bought some delectable desserts, some of which included mini creme brulee's, flan, and other pastries worded entirely in French - like Delice-Marquise, Opera, Charlotte, Castel, Alcazar, Fraisier, and MontBlanc pastries. If you know the French language and know exactly what each word means, then I am jealous! I used to remember some French from taking French classes in high school and college but it's been awhile and hard to recall it all!

Now if you aren't all that familiar with the language or exactly what is in each pastry - you can always do what I did, simply picked out the ones that looked the prettiest!!! I know, not the best way! ;)

For those of you who live in the local Orange County area or are visiting, here is the address:

Boulangerie Pierre & Patisserie
14352 Brookhurst St.
Garden Grove, CA 92843

You won't be disappointed!

Enjoy and hope to be back to crafting soon!

Birds of a feather...

Happy Friday! I'm back with a card I made this morning to share with you:

I like to try many designs that are way out of my comfort zone, and this card is definitely one of them.....totally not my usual style but I wanted to see how a number of stamps would work together on this one! I also left off any kind of sentiment.....just something different and playful for me....enjoy!

Yesterday was all about Spring Cleaning of the Blog...lol....I made some 'internal' changes, stuff that you don't see but it is more for my benefit, and switched things around...was also in dire need of a quick, new profile photo - a more natural, everyday moi!

Always good to update the blog, isn't it? Today is a beautiful day here in southern calif. - the sun is just peeking and I can't wait for my day out tomorrow! Whoohoooo....

Caardvark's Critters Challenge

Hi all! I'm back again today with the latest challenge over at Caardvark's:

LAD Sketch #69

It's that time again for the Lizzie Anne Design's Weekly SKETCH!
Here is my rendition of it:

Now you can see that I deviated from the original design quite a bit....why? Well, let's see - somehow between the hours of 3 and 5 p.m. yesterday, my brain cells just shut off and wasn't working correctly...sigh! So you know how you think a card will look once you are putting it together....and then it turns up totally different at the end!

It just happens, doesn't it? lol.....so I switched some things around and I scattered my 4 circular elements (the button chipboards and large 'a' monogram), instead of aligning them vertically and straight like the sketch.

I may do another design today if I have some time. Overall, I liked how the card turned out and I love the BIG floral in the center...it just pops!

Whoohoooo....off to start another day of fun...enjoy!

I had a little more time today and was able to squeeze in a fun, summery layout....

Here's a closer look at the colorful mix, I also got to use my new squeeze punches from EK Success to create some scalloped circles and edges - oh my, those are scrumptuous:

It's decorating time!!

Here are a few eggs that I got to decorate:

I'm not quite done yet, have a few more to do....these will be part of a larger project very soon. I'd like to use some more stamping on these eggs and a little bit of paint if I can get in some time....

Here is a close-up in which I used several types of crystal clear gems to surround the eggs, you can experiment with different colors of gems, flowers, and ribbons to see how the variations turn out:

Enjoy for today...lots more to come (praying I don't get sick again....NEVER AGAIN.......lol)...It's great to be eating real food again.....I'm telling ya, for awhile, a diet of plain ritz crackers, water, and Dora and Diego (sugarless) popsicles just wasn't cuttin' it for me......somebody pass me some hot and spicy buffalo wings and some yummy Ben and Jerry's Icecream....aaahhhhh....now that's some good food. ;)
